Collaboration in Burkina Faso
OneDollarGlasses USA is working closely with the staff of ODG Burkina Faso to establish our Liberian project. Our collaboration with Refuge Place International (RPI), a clinic which provides free medical care to those living in an impoverished slum, “Chicken Soup Factory“, in Monrovia, Liberia. These citizens are trapped in poverty due to years of civil wars, corruption and overwhelming health crises. Mosoka Fallah, renowned epidemiologist and founder of RPI, reached out to ODG USA to help bring eyeglasses into the spectrum of health services he could offer his patients.
RPI medical staff including ophthalmic nurses are training with ODG Burkina Faso’s country director, Thomas Remont, in Ouagadougou, BF’s capital city and location of ODG’s country operation. They will be trained to do visual assessments, identify and refer ocular pathologies, customize and dispense ODG glasses for their patients. Mosoka and his team has taken this knowledge, and an inventory of materials (frames, lenses, visual assessment and adjusting tools) back to Liberia to finally be able to provide OneDollarGlasses, affordable eyewear, to the people of Liberia.
